Wild Child Reflection

The "WIld Child" video was extremely interesting. First of all, I can not believe that someone could possibly neglect a child like Genie's parents had done to her.  I cannot even imagine what a life like Genie's would be like.  I found myself asking so many questions, like "I wonder if Genie had even realized how messed up and tragic the life she was living was because that's all she has ever known."  Genie went through so much and to go from complete neglect to a lot of attention from many many different psycholgists and scientists I feel like could have hurt Genie rather than help her.  I feel like the scientists should have eased Genie into the tests and research a little more slowly than had.
I also was wondering if there ever gets to a point where development has been so delayed or damaged that there is absolutely no way to fix it.  Since Genie was so developmentally behind, I wonder if there are just somethings that she can never learned because she has gotten passed the point where she can longer develop.

Inside the Teenage Brain Reflection

I thought that the documentary, "Inside the Teenage Brain" was very insightful.  I felt as though I could relate to some of the kids in the video.  The information on sleep was especially interesting to me.  I often feel like I am tired all the time, and now I might know why. Our bodies and brains our changing so much that we need a lot of sleep.  However, since our brains are not fully developed our sleep patterns are often thrown off.  There are a lot of changes and developments that our brain goes through during our adolescent years.  These changes are vital for us to fully develop as adults.  If we don't develop properly within these years we can permanently be effected as adults.  With proper sleep and if we take care of our bodies, our brains will hopefully develop to their fully capabilities.

Choice Book: Lucky

                                               Lucky.

The book Lucky is about a girl named Alice, who was raped at the age of 18, and the struggles she faces during the aftermath.  The story follows Alice in the days, weeks, and months after her rape.  The book puts us in Alice's mind while she tries to cope with what tragically happened.
I hope that this book helps me to understand how people recover from a tragic incident like the one Alice experienced.  I have never understood how someone can erase an image like that and the pain that they felt from their brains.  I know people have, and I know it takes time and courage to just not give up, but psychologically there must be something else going on to give someone that amazing strength.  I am hoping that this book will help me to understand that remarkable strength.
